For several years, I have taught monthly Feldenkrais® Awareness Through Movement® workshops that focus on a certain part or a specific function of the body, with my work focus in New York, now these "playshops" are seasonal. Lessons emphasize how to find support through all of yourself to improve movement and reduce pain, and learn more about you! Among the many possible benefits are learning new ways of moving to increase comfort sitting, standing and working; reduce strain caused by driving or using a computer; improve your sport, yoga or dance; breathe more easily and feel younger; improve balance and posture; reduce stress and increase vitality. If you haven't experienced this work, it's like making self improvements by playing. Please join us and suggest the themes that interest you. For adults and teens at ALL levels of physical skill. November 24, 2018 - Relativity, Inside and Outside
In this workshop we will explore relationships within oneself and with the environment. Experience being centered and grounded. Discover qualities of movement and refine your sense of attending to yourself that support you in relationship to yourself and others. And feel better in your body!
February 18, 2018 - Easy Hips for Support and Movement
The joint that connects the longest bone of your body with the largest bone is the hip joint. Learn the subtleties of your hip joints in action that make moving more pleasurable. Find greater support for your whole self by aligning hips and torso and experience yourself in new, powerful ways.
November 25, 2017 - Resilience: Respecting Limits, Reaching Goals
In each place he stood, sat or walked, the teacher Moshe Feldenkrais was ready to move in any direction, as desire or survival required. Meeting life and death circumstances in the time of wildfires, you have accessed your resilience. In this workshop we reduce the trauma and effects of stress to deepen our resilience and build confidence. While respecting limits, an attitude of curiosity and playfulness will bring us to new means for action, like approaching goals from a secret door.
July 15 - Embodying Creativity: Perception-Movement-Painting
Welcome to somatic painting practices. Feel freedom in your body, get unstuck in life or your creative endeavors, safely move with ease. This playshop involves process, not technique or making a painting, but to learn about oneself. Interweaving Feldenkrais® lessons and paint on paper, you will discover new perceptions and expression. Enhance how you move, think and feel. Wear clothes you don't mind getting paint on. Invite a friend, and register early, space is limited!

June 24 - Eyes - Neck - Jaw
Did you know that your eyes govern your movements? Learn how your eyes can also ease the strain in your neck or jaw. Reduce stress throughout your entire body-mind. Awaken the capacity of your eyes to function better! Must be present to win the benefits of this experiential workshop. All are welcome to discover how to use awareness to refine movement, improve functions and know yourself more deeply. Feldenkrais is brain training; by developing new neuro pathways, you are able to access more of your natural capacities.

This is the 113th birthday of the founder of the Feldenkrais Method, somatics innovator Moshe Feldenkrais. We start the workshop with a free Feldenkrais lesson, and continue with engaging lessons that clarify your center and enhance your natural dynamic capacities, supported by a clear center and connections through your body. Come for an introduction to moving intelligently, or stay for a deeper experience of yourself.
Apr 1 - Flex Your Brain - Reduce Pain
Your brain is the electrical and chemical center of every action, thought and emotion in your life! The neurological retraining of Feldenkrais engages the plasticity of your brain to access more of your capacity to create, move, feel, think and change; making new possibilities for less pain, greater health, self-direction, agility and creativity. Mar 4 - Grip Again - Wrists and Elbows
As many know “losing your grip” is a physiological reality of middle-age. Regardless of your age, you can learn to reduce the strain on hands, wrists and elbows by distributing the effort of action through more of yourself. In the Awareness Through Movement® lessons in this workshop we explore variations of action that challenge the nervous system. Experience the refinement that naturally develops for your hands, wrists and arms. Reduce pain, increase coordination.
Feb 11 - Fancy Footwork & Holistic Grounding – Sonoma
Your feet are a long way from the brain that controls them. Some of the nerves that connect you are a yard or two long. Expanding on the January Feet First playshop, we will clarify more aspects of each foot, the connections to support and mobilize all of you better, and find the means to be better grounded.
Jan 14 - Feet First
When you stand at a doorway and poke your head in the next room – which room are you in? We begin our year’s monthly playshops with the FEET! Learn how more varied use and clearer connection of feet to the rest of you improves many aspects of existence – how you walk or dance, standing, working and computing, and perhaps even decision-making. Refresh your awareness and appreciation for the feet that take you everywhere you go!
Dec 17 - Balance of Power: Compassion Through Movement
To what extent do we allow external events to affect our self? The challenges of the day call us to our greatest capacity - to be compassionate, whether we like what another/others say or do or not, because inner experience is manifested outwardly; as we create balance in ourselves, it is reflected in our society. This holistic Feldenkrais playshop is an opportunity to strengthen your power by engaging in compassionate movement, to increase your awareness, to maintain and improve your personal balance. It expands on last month's workshop: The Heart of the Matter. Participants exclaim their surprise that such small movements make such big changes.
Nov 12 - The Heart of the Matter - Compassion Through Movement
Building on previous workshops and to prepare for the season of Compassion, we will explore the supportive structures of our heart – the lungs, the diaphragm and the ribs, spine and sternum, enhancing their connection and coordination in unified movement, unlocking the rib cage, reducing holiday stress and enhancing overall health. We will make new connections between our thinking, perception of norms, breathing, movement and emotions. This Holistic workshop is for all people.
Oct 15 - Superior Slouching - Alignment for Shoulder and Back
This is an experiential workshop of innovative Awareness building, a process that retrains the nervous system. Sometimes we habitually take on postures that are not supported through our whole self. Learn how slouching better can improve the alignment of your spine and back, increasing support and reducing stress/pain. Facilitate ease for sitting at the computer or driving; standing, walking and working. This play-shop includes engaging Awareness Through Movement® lessons and short, gentle hands-on Functional Integration®.
Sept 17 - Core Action to Empower You
This is an experiential workshop of innovative Awareness building. We all have habits of over-using parts of our body, and not using other parts. Learn how to move with a dynamic center, and how your core can better support the work of your arms and hands, reducing stress or pain. Facilitate your dreams and visions with less effort in your legs and feet, clearer internal guidance and self-organization. Play-shop includes engaging Awareness Through Movement® lessons and short, gentle hands-on Functional Integration®.
Aug 20 - Where Does Stress Begin?
We all know what stress leads to – emotional upset, physical pain or illness, and lowered effectiveness. While a modicum of stress is essential for us to exist, to work and to create, our cultural habit is to act from an on-going level of stress that interferes with health and happiness. In Awareness Through Movement® lessons we explore how and where we create stress, begin to un-do the unnecessary stress, and develop new more effective habits.
July 30 - Your Eyes in Action: Improve Vision with Posture & Posture with Vision
Seeing is not the only way we use our eyes. The windows of our soul also inform our orientation in space, how we direct our actions, our vestibular system, and how we behold beauty. In this workshop we will learn about our habits of action, and create new alternatives for easier seeing and moving, comfort and breathing. Knowing our habits of eye use and developing greater control of eye movements benefits vision, body movements, and our way of living and relating in the world.We welcome people in all states of health and vision.

June 11 - Internal Equilibrium & External Balance
A playshop for everybody, whether you are in balance or “out of balance.” Improving balance improves life! Long time habits, injury or illness challenge one to regain balance – physically, mentally, emotionally, socially. In this sensory-motor exploration learn how to influence your equilibrium and balance with new, or long forgotten use of your feet and ankles; learn new ways to organize your whole self for a clearer sense of balance. Experience more readiness to regain your equilibrium.
May 14 - Forgotten Forearms, Fingers and Hands
The noble hand, we do take for granted …until it hurts, or doesn’t bend, or bends too much, or our grip can’t open jars anymore. In this experiential workshop, through gentle movement you create ease and fluidity, and find support for your hard working hands through new organization of the upper arms, trunk, and other surprising places! All are welcome to come experience greater awareness and improved self-regulation that enhance comfort, ease and fun in life activities.
Apr 16 - Breath of Spring
Learn about your current patterns of breathing, and discover new possibilities through gentle movement sequences and directed attention. Find greater flexibility, more openness and ease for your breath and freedom of your arms. Enhance athleticism, endurance, and daily activities. This is an experiential workshop. Everyone is welcome.
Mar 12 - Powerful Pelvis
Learn to gently access your natural center to support all of you. Relate to yourself in a nurturing way that allows for healthy change. Reduce pain, increase flexibility, power, balance and grace. This is an experiential workshop with engaging Awareness Through Movement lessons and short, gentle hands-on Functional Integration®. Everyone is welcome, including people with pelvic pain or related dysfunction. Experience greater awareness and improved self-regulation, that enhances comfort, ease and fun in life activities.
Feb 20 - Support for Arms and Shoulders
Have you considered how much you rely on your arms and shoulders to “get things done?” Learn how to reduce stiffness and pain and create greater flexibility, balance and grace. Wake up your strong back to support doing your things and regain more natural movement. This workshop combines engaging Awareness Through Movement lessons and short, gentle hands-on Functional Integration. Experience greater awareness, a higher level of functioning, and how to support your arms and shoulders with all of yourself, to enhance comfort, ease and fun in life activities.
Jan 30 - Is it all in your Head, Neck or Jaw?
Ease neck pain or stiffness, headache, jaw or facial pain, spinal compression, TMJ, and regain more natural movement. This workshop combines engaging Awareness Through Movement lessons and short, gentle hands-on Functional Integration. In these lessons you can experience the natural alignment of your pelvis and spine that supports your neck and head, enhancing comfort and ease in life activities. Learn how to reduce strain and pain and create greater flexibility, balance and grace.
Dec 5 – Unlock Your Ribcage – Reduce Holiday Stress
When we think of our upper torso as a cage and lock the fine joints that meet the spine and sternum, not only do we loose mobility, we feel discomfort, and become vulnerable to illness and stress. In this Feldenkrais workshop you will create new brain patterns, make direct connections throughout your body, and new possibilities in how you live. Improve breathing and overall function. Find easier, efficient movement for your ribs, sternum, shoulder blades and spine. Workshop will combine engaging Awareness Through Movement lessons and short, gentle hands-on Functional Integration.
Nov 14 – Appease Your Knees – the connectors of pelvis to feet
We often take for granted our knees. How many times have you bent your knees and straightened them in the past ten years? Learn how your ankles and hips influence the knees, and all work together for coordinated ease in movement. In this workshop your body trains your brain with new patterns that refine the relationship of your knees to your whole skeleton to offer more pleasurable and elegant movement. Awake to new ways of sensing yourself and a fuller self image. Workshop will combine engaging Awareness Through Movement lessons and short, gentle hands-on Functional Integration.
Oct 17 – Balance & Walking for Everyone and Fun!
A finely regulated nervous system is fundamental to standing, walking and balance. In this workshop your body trains your brain with new patterns for simpler, direct connections to enhance walking, and improve balance. Awake to new ways of sensing and a fuller self image. Workshop will combine engaging Awareness Through Movement lessons and short, gentle hands-on Functional Integration.
Sept 19 – Give Back to Your Lower Back
Learn how to use more of your natural capacity for easy movement to reduce back pain and strain. In this workshop your body trains your brain with new patterns that give more to your lower back than current patterns may take from your back. Experience the natural alignment of your spine that supports your lower back muscles and entire self. Workshop will combine group Awareness Through Movement lessons and short, individual hands on Functional Integration lessons.
Aug 15 – Neck and Neck, Shoulder to Shoulder
In this workshop for your neck and shoulders, you will learn more about how you are connected throughout your shoulder area, and learn to reduce the burden your shoulders carry, creating greater comfort and reducing pain or tension in your neck and shoulders.

Self-Healing Retreat & Reiki Level I Training
I am offering a two day retreat of Awareness Through Movement, qigong and Reiki Level I training and initiation. It will include discussion and practice in healing oneself, giving Reiki healings to others, and guidance for a daily practice.
Reiki is a natural healing system through which you direct universal life force energy through your body, opening the body to its natural capacity to heal. Reiki reduces stress, and promotes physical, emotional and spiritual health. Anyone can learn to administer Reiki to themselves and others. It is gentle and safe. You learn to give Reiki healings from a teacher, a Reiki Master (Reiki Level III), who transmits information and attunement directly to you. There is no creed, but there are simple, wise ethics in the Reiki system.
About me: In addition my work in the Feldenkrais Method of learning, I have studied healing arts for 30 years, including meditation, three schools of qigong, Reiki and shamanic traditions.
Cost includes all workshop activities - small group, personalized attention, nutritious vegetarian lunch & snacks, Saturday simple supper.
